Aiken Electric Cooperative awards scholarships Aiken Electric Cooperative recently awarded three college scholarships to local graduating seniors. One $1,000 Trustee scholarship was awarded to Miss Takelia Burton of Edgefield and two Touchstone Energy® scholarships were awarded to Miss Christine Wheeler and Miss Saber Partridge. The Trustee scholarship, personally funded by the Cooperative’s Trustees, was awarded to Miss Takelia Burton, graduate of Strom Thurmond High School. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina Aiken and study Early Childhood Education. The Touchstone Energy scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors, one planning to attend a four-year university or college and another planning to enroll in a two-year technical school. Competitive selection for this scholarship is based on: academics, extracurricular activities, community involvement, self-analysis, and an essay. Miss Christine Wheeler, Strom Thurmond High School, was awarded the scholarship for a four-year university or college. She plans to attend Presbyterian College and major in pre-pharmacy. She has been a Beta Club member, captain of the varsity soccer team and participated in Relay For Life for three years. The winner of the two-year, technical school scholarship is Miss Saber Partridge of Midland Valley High School. She plans to attend Aiken Technical College where she will major in Nursing. She has been a member of the Band and earned a letter; a member of the FCA and Woodridge Baptist drama team; and received a scholarship from the Gregg-Graniteville Foundation. High school seniors whose primary residence is served by Aiken Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply for the scholarships. Scholarship applications will be available in January 2010 at Aiken Co-op offices, on the website www.aikenco-op.org or by calling (800) 922-1262.
